 The History of Golf

golf history

The modern day Golf as we know it today is believed to have originated from Scotland. Just like today, the game was played across 18 holes and demanded a variety of skill, precision and power to like the masters would.  The first documented game was in 1457, although it is uncertain that this was the first official game. Interestingly, the sport was once described as a unprofitable sport.

In the 17th century the game of Golf began to spread to England after James VI of Scotland Succeeded the throne. The Scottish soldiers and immigrants were then believed to have spread the origin of the game into France.

It wasn’t until the 19th century that there was a large boom in the game. At first it spread across Europe and eventually made its way to Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Ireland and Canada by 1880. Suddenly gold courses started appearing in luxury hotels and resorts around the world giving Golf its everlasting luxurious undertone.
